Strength in Numbers worked with the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque on a needs assessment related to employment, child care and mental health in Eastern Iowa. We used a mixed methods approach, combining qualitative interviews and focus groups with an analysis of secondary data and a quantitative survey. Through the needs assessment process, we built the qualitative research capacity of foundation staff, while maintaining standards for data quality. The findings were used to inform the strategy of the community foundation, as well as the United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States and the work of local coalitions targeting these issues.
